How Does It Work?
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) is technology that allows appropriate
equipment to calculate positions in space (latitute, longitude and altitude).
This technology is used in conjunction with purpose written software to convert
a known GPS position to a known position on the golf course - hence GPS golf.
GPS Golf in Use
Known positions on the golf course are utilised in conjunction with the
positioning of the On-Pin GPS device to show golfers required distances to
targets and hazards on the course.
The same data is also utilised by the golf course management to know the
position of the golfers and golf carts.
Course Management can also use radio transmission to communicate with the golf
carts and the players on the course, for example, if they see that a cart is
entering a restricted area.
